Short answer: on a 1.6 TDI engine (codes CAYA, CAYB, CAYC, CAYD, CAYE, CLNA), you can replace a single injector if the other three are healthy. Beyond roughly 150,000 km (about 93,000 miles), or if several cylinders show signs of weakness, replacing all four saves you another trip to the garage a few months later.
When one injector is enough
- The fault is clearly located on one cylinder (for example a P0202 code for cylinder 2).
- The vehicle has moderate mileage and the other injectors have never caused problems.
- The correction values of the other injectors, read with a diagnostic tool, are normal.
When it is better to replace all four
- The engine has covered more than about 150,000 km: the injectors are the same age and equally worn.
- Several fault codes appear (P0201 to P0204) or the symptoms come back after a first replacement.
- The vehicle is a work tool: every day off the road costs more than the part.
- The fuel was contaminated (water, wrong fuel): all injectors went through the same thing.
What it costs at Injexo
Prices including VAT for the new Continental 03L130277B injector, no core charge, tracked delivery included:
| Option | Total price | Price per injector |
|---|---|---|
| 1 injector | €269.90 | €269.90 |
| Set of 2 | €509.80 | €254.90 |
| Set of 4 | €1,009.60 | €252.40 |
Labour comes on top: usually 2 to 3 hours in the workshop depending on the model. Replacing all four in one job means you only pay once for removal, coding and bleeding the fuel system.
Points not to forget
- IIC coding is mandatory: each injector has a calibration code engraved on its head. It must be stored in the engine ECU (VCDS, ODIS or equivalent), injector by injector and cylinder by cylinder.
- New copper washer: replace it every time the injector is removed. One is supplied with every Injexo injector.
- Tightening torques: follow the manufacturer's values for the clamp and fittings.
- Bleed the fuel system after fitting, then check the idle and that there are no leaks.
Frequently asked questions
Can I mix one new injector with three old ones?
Yes, as long as the new injector is coded. The ECU compensates for differences using the IIC code. If the old ones are worn, the fault may simply move to another cylinder.
Are 03L130277B, 03L130277S and A2C59513554 interchangeable?
Yes. They are equivalent part numbers for the same Continental (Siemens VDO) part. See our article 03L130277S and 03L130277B.
How can I be sure the part fits my vehicle?
Compare the number engraved on your old injector, or send us your VIN: we check compatibility free of charge before you order.
